Voices from the past

Life on Exmoor at the Somerset Archives site omerset's Archive and Record Service has added a collection of audio clips to its Exmoor Oral History Archive website (www.somerset. gov.uk/archives/exmoor). The clips represent 78 contributors to the archive, selected by recorder Birdie Johnson from more than 200 hours of material, and give an insight into 20th century life on Exmoor.

Clips feature a variety of trades and professions from blacksmith and farmer to chambermaid and landed gentry. Somerset Council's head of heritage Tom Mayberry said: "They give an impression of Exmoor in a way no written record ever could."
