LOCAL HERITAGE INITIATIVE [w] www.lhi.org.uk
The LHI helps communities bring their local heritage alive by giving communities funds, advice and support to do this. It is also collecting records and stories from the projects to create a national archive of England's heritage. Resources include video, audio and databases, and there's a decent geographical spread.
LONDON AND NORTH MIDDLESEX FAMILY HISTORY SOCIETY [w] www.lnmfhs.dircon.co.uk
This is a simple FHS site that offers the basic society information concerning membership and a meetings and events calendar. There are some details on local parishes covered, plus a list of searchable indexes - which can be searched for a small fee. The lilac menu text is difficult to read.

THE LONG, LONG TRAIL [w] www.1914-1918.net
The site is well thought out, providing a wealth of information on a whole range of related topics. The section on army units provides a history of each unit with some photographs and diagrams, which will complement the regular 'Grandfather Was In...' series in Your Family Tree's news section.
There is also a photographic tour of the battlefields plus a section that concentrates on the history behind each battle. Additional sections look at World War I medals, diaries, statistics and maps, as well as accounts of real soldier's stories. In short this is an excellent site that is well worth the visit.
