To do research in the United States, it's a good idea to know what federal records can help your search. The National Archives and Records Administration Archival Research Catalog (ARC) database houses descriptions of 56 percent of the Archives holdings. It also contains a number of digitized documents including 325 maps, over 58,000 pictures, and 15,000 textual documents. You can query the system through a basic-search or advanced-search interface.
